Body wraps are a great way of detoxifying and losing that excess fat. Made popular by spas and massage parlors, body wraps have a range of therapeutic and cosmetic benefits. Not only do they clean your skin and hydrate it, but this treatment can be used for curing a number of skin and other health related problems. This includes joint pain, muscle inflammation and acne problems. Seaweed, clay, herbs, salts and essential oils are some of the common ingredients of body wraps.
How Do Body Wraps Work?
Body wraps essentially have two stages, absorption and squeezing (compaction). In the first stage of absorption, the substance is applied to the body and is wrapped in by bandages or wraps. The desired effects, be it cleansing the skin or treating a skin problem, is determined by the ingredients used for the process. So if you want to promote inch loss, then choose an ingredient that is more absorbent.

Once the fluids are taken out, there are empty pockets within the cells which can be squeezed closer by wrapping the body tightly. This helps keep the body cells intact and re-adhere to the new shape. However, you need not spend a fortune on spa treatments for this natural weight loss treatment. Slimming body wraps that can detoxify and cleanse the system can be made with simple homemade ingredients while helping you lose the extra inches.

Clay Body Wrap Recipe
Ingredients
  • 1 cup green clay
  • 1/2 cup sea salt
  • 3 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 cups water
What to Do

Heat the water till it starts boiling and then add the sea salt till it dissolves. Add the remaining body wrap ingredients and stir in the solution. The consistency should be of a wet paste, so adjust the water accordingly. Rub the mixture over your body and wrap yourself with wrapping sheets or clean white towels. Lay in the tub for 45 minutes before scrubbing your clay body wrap off.

In addition to these body wraps, you can also use Epsom salts and other sea salts for effective detox results. Magnesium sulfate or Epsom salts helps to draw out the toxins from the body, reduce the swelling and relax tired and stressed muscles. Since body wraps can be messy and time-consuming, use this time to relax, read a book or listen to your favorite music. Before the body wrap treatment, take a warm shower to open the skin pores. Remember to drink plenty of water and avoid any junk food or caffeine for the next two to three days.
