Dry skin is one of the several skin problems that can affect your facial skin, and treating it is of utmost importance. It is characterized by patches on the face that may also cause itching, scaling, and flaking of the skin. The skin may also develop cracks, and tightness of the skin may be experienced. Dry skin on the face also indicates that the sebaceous glands are not functioning properly, and that the skin may have lost its ability to protect itself from harmful chemicals and substances. It may cause the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines at a very early age.

Causes

Dry skin is mainly caused due to the excessive loss of moisture from the surface of the skin. This may be the result of excessive use of cosmetics, chemical products, weather conditions, excessive air-conditioning, insufficient water consumption, exposure to pollution, dust and harmful UV rays of the sun, etc. Certain medical conditions of the skin and pregnancy can also lead to dry facial skin.

Remedies for Extremely Dry Skin
  • Increase the humidity levels in your home to cure extreme dry skin. You can install a cool mist humidifier for this purpose.
  • Moisturize and massage your skin regularly. Massage the dry skin areas with aloe vera gel or almond oil in an upward circular motion. Let it stay for a few minutes, and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
