Tanning beds are relaxing and are a great place for a quick nap, but the UV rays can damage your skin. Apart from skin cancer, tanning beds can make your skin age faster than normal and dry it out.

Good thing there are other ways to tan!

There are self-tanner and spray tans you can get instead of tanning beds, but be careful. Sometimes these products can make your skin orange. A way to know if this can happen is to try it.

The safer route is going to be through a tanning lotion or mouse you can buy at the store that you rub into your skin yourself.

How to use a self-tanner the right way

Thinking of using a self-tanner might seem scary. That’s why you need to know how to use a self-tanner the right way beforehand.

Before using a self-tanner, you need to have a self-tanning mitt to apply the product so that your hands are not orange or discolored. The mitt is going to be what applies the product evenly and is a softer version of an oven mitt.

Most self-tanning products come with a mitt, but if yours does not, you can easily find one at the store.

Before applying your self-tanner, there are a few self-care tips you need to practice. You need to exfoliate your skin and prep it before rubbing in the product. This gets rid of dead skin cells and cleans it.

You also should apply it when your skin is dry. So, if you want to put it on after a shower, wait a little bit for your body to clear off.

Why you are applying the self-tanner, it’s important that you blend it in well. You don’t want to have the tanner look splotchy or missing in places, so take your time rubbing in the product.

Want to make sure the tan looks natural? Blend and thin the product out at your ankles and wrists and then onto your feet and hands. When it comes to your face, go light with the product so that it doesn’t look too thick or much and unnatural.
