There are hundreds of face wash brands that are available in the market, promising a beautiful, bright, and blemish-free skin, but choosing the one that suits your skin type can be quite a task. Here are a few guidelines which will help you to choose the best one, followed by appropriate application, and a recipe for a homemade face wash, to suit your particular skin type.

For Oily Skin

An oily skin is very sensitive and is prone to acne, pimples, zits, etc. When buying face wash for this type of skin, always look out for terms such as oil free, non irritating, non drying, and non comedogenic. Reading the reviews available on the Internet also helps.

Face washes which have medicated ingredients, such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, are considered the best for sensitive skin. Acne can become aggravated if the face wash has scrubbing agents in it, so always look for simple liquid ones that do not have any scrubbing beads or balls in it.

Homemade Face Wash:
The ingredients required for this are oatmeal, lemon juice, and yogurt. Mix two teaspoons of oatmeal, half a teaspoon of lemon juice, and one teaspoon of yogurt in a small bowl. Leave the mixture for one minute so that it is able to blend properly. Afterward, apply this on the face, and leave it on for about ten minutes. Now, splash some water on it, and start removing it with your fingertips using circular motion. This helps in removing the excess oil from the skin.

Appropriate Application:
If you have oily skin, do not use face wash more than twice a day, as it can cause extreme dryness. When using a face wash, move your fingertips gently, and in a circular motion. Do not rub your skin harshly. Post washing, pat your skin dry using a soft towel. Remember not to rub the skin with towel when drying, as an oily skin is often very sensitive and rubbing it vigorously can irritate the it, causing even more breakouts.

For Dry Skin

When buying a face wash for dry skin, look for terms such as moisturizes while it cleans, contains natural oils, and soothes dryness. The best ones are those that contain ingredients that will replenish the lost moisture of the skin. Those with olive oil, glycerin, lactic acids, proteins, alpha hydroxy acids, petrolatum, silicone derivatives, Aloe vera, and lanolin in them are best for dry skin.

Homemade Face Wash:
For making a natural face wash, the ingredients required are almond oil, honey, and milk. All these ingredients help in moisturizing the skin along with cleaning it. Mix one teaspoon of each of these ingredients and apply the mixture on the face. Leave it on for about ten minutes and then wash off. With this face wash, the skin will be cleaned but there won't be any dryness.

Appropriate Application:
Excessive washing can cause extreme dryness in an already dry skin. So, it should be done only once in the morning and once before sleeping. When applying a face wash on dry skin, make sure to use lukewarm water, as hot water dries the skin. For dry skin, the face wash has to be complimented with a thick moisturizing cream or lotion. So, whenever a person with dry skin washes his/her face, it should be followed by the application of a moisturizer which contains natural oils.

Following the cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and scrubbing routine for proper skincare, along with a healthy diet and an exercise routine, will give you an unblemished and glowing skin.
